Baptism

Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. (John 3:5)

Baptism, as the first Sacrament to be received, is the gate to the other Sacraments. Baptism is the purifying and sanctifying sacrament of rebirth and the means by which those who receive it are incorporated into the Church in a bond of unity.

In the Catholic Parishes of the Blue Hills, the Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at 12 noon on:

  • the second Sunday of the month at Most Precious Blood Church;
  • the third Sunday of the month at Saint Anne Church; and
  • the fourth Sunday of the month at Saint Pius X Church.

Please note that no baptisms will be celebrated on either Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday this year (the second and third Sundays of April, respectively.)

To schedule Baptism for an infant or young child, please contact Amy at the Collaborative Center at 857-342-9500, ext. 17 or admin@bluehillscollaborative.org and we will contact you as soon as we can. BAPTISMS MUST BE SCHEDULED SIX (6) WEEKS PRIOR TO THE SELECTED DATE.

Check out the photos below of some of our recent Baptisms at St. Pius X and Most Precious Blood. A special thanks to parishioner and professional photographer Nicole Curran for providing us with the pictures at Most Precious Blood.

Adults seeking to be baptized take part in the RCIA program; please follow this link to the Adult RCIA page for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Sacrament of Baptism

  • How are Baptisms scheduled? When and where are they held?

All Baptisms in the Catholic Parishes of the Blue Hills take place on Sundays at noon. Please contact admin@bluehillscollaborative.org to obtain a baptism registration form and for more information. Refer to the right hand side for specific dates and locations for Baptism.

  • How many godparents may I have for Baptism?

You may select two godparents; only one is required for Baptism. If one is chosen, he/she must be an actively practicing Catholic. If two are chosen, one must be male and one female and at least one must be an actively practicing Catholic. A non-Catholic godparent must be a baptized Christian and will be considered a Christian witness.

  • What are the requirements of being a godparent?

According to the requirements of the Catholic Church's Canon Law (872-874), at least one must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and:

    • At least 16 years of age
    • Received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation
    • If married, it must be a valid, sacramental marriage
    • Not be bound by canonical penalties
    • Not be the father or mother of the child to be baptized
    • The second godparent, if not Catholic, must be a baptized Christian; he/she is called a witness
  • What if a godparent is unable to be present at the Baptism?

A Catholic adult must be present at the baptism ceremony. The parents and godparents can designate in writing a proxy stand in for the absentee godparent. The proxy follows the same requirements for a Catholic godparent. The proxy must be the same gender as the person they stand in for at the Baptism. Email admin@bluehillscollaborative.org if you need a proxy.
