On Valentine’s weekend it’s appropriate to focus on the opportunity and privilege we all have to feel and express love. We have made it a tradition in the parishes of the Blue Hills Collaborative to invite all of our married couples to renew their vows at our Valentine weekend Masses. It’s also a wonderful time to reflect upon the profound words that have been spoken by others as they try to describe “Love”.

The front cover of last weeks bulletin was an attempt to highlight the word “Love”. We don’t see skywriters too often anymore but I have wonderful childhood memories of their skill. This cover was a reminder of that skill. Someone looked at the picture and I asked them their thoughts, they said “Love is in the air”. I like it!   Here are some thoughts to ponder:

  • “ In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities.”
  • “When you trip over love, it is easy to get up. But when you fall in love, it is impossible to stand again.”
  • “Love is a friendship set to music.”
  • “No one has ever measured, not even poets, how much love the heart can hold.”
  • “Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love.”   --Charles Schultz
  • "You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
  • “True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights. If you hear bells, get your ears checked.”
  • “If I had a flower for every time I thought of you… I could walk through my garden forever."
  • “When you are loved, there is no need at all to understand what’s happening, because every thing happens within you.”
  • “When you love you should not say 'God is in my heart' but rather 'I am in the heart of God'.”
  • “Love me when I least deserve it, because that’s when I really need it.”
  • “In the end, there are three things that last: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love." -- St. Paul
  • “Love is of all the passions the strongest, for it attacks simultaneously the head, the heart, and the senses.”
  • “I fell in love the way you fall asleep, slowly and then all at once.”
  • “If I know what love is, it is because of you.”

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Enjoy Life!
