Children's Sacramental Preparation

Following their Baptism, children in Catholic faith formation receive three more sacraments, the final two Sacraments of Initiation (First Communion and Confirmation), as well as the first Sacrament of Healing, Reconciliation.

Grades 1 & 2: First Reconciliation/First Communion

Although children receive their first Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion in second grade, there is a two year program that prepares them to receive these sacraments.

In 2018, the dates for these sacraments are:

  • First Reconciliation: Thursday, February 8, 2018, 7:00 pm at Most Precious Blood parish. Regardless of parish affiliation, all students making this sacrament will do so at this one ceremony.
    • Mandatory Parent Meetings December 3, 2017 during your child's Faith Formation session
  • First Communion:
    • St. Anne: Saturday, May 5, 2018, 11:00 am
    • Most Precious Blood: Sunday, May 6, 2018, 9:00 am (English), 5:00 pm (French)
    • St. Pius X: Sunday, May 6, 2018, 10:30 am

Regardless of parish affiliation, students and their families are welcome to celebrate First Communion at any of our three parishes.

Grades 9 & 10: Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred by the Very Reverend James A. Flavin, VE—Episcopal Vicar of the Central Region of the Archdiocese of Boston on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 7:00 pm at St. Anne parish. Practice will take place Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 7:00 pm, same place. All those who will be receiving the sacrament the following evening are expected to attend with their sponsors.

  • Mandatory Parent/Sponsor Meeting and Family Service Day,
    Sunday, January 28, 2018, 12:30 - 3 pm (2.5 hours) at the Collaborative Center
  • Mandatory Retreat only for students who expect to be confirmed in 2018 on
Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Collaborative Center

Family Service Day

For parents of first and second-year Confirmation Prep students, January 28th is Family Service Day. Parents will gather with their teen at 12:30 PM to share a meal. Once finished, families will be asked to help assemble baskets of household goods that will be given by Friends of Boston’s Homeless to people who are exiting the homeless shelter system and starting a new life in their own home. Following that, families will be asked to build a second project designed to help the less fortunate in our own community.

Sponsor Meeting

For those families with a teen who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2018, we will also be holding our Confirmation Sponsor meeting, so families are encouraged to bring your child’s sponsor, as well. If the sponsor is not available that day (lives in Ireland, etc.), then a parent may stand in for the sponsor at this meeting. This meeting will take place immediately following the conclusion of the other activities. Thank you to all who participate.
