Fr. Coyne is a Bostonian by birth, having been raised in Roslindale and West Roxbury. He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School and was ordained a priest in 1973. Much of his ministry has been in parishes in Mattapan, Dorchester, Roslindale and Charlestown (also serving in Weymouth and Randolph).  He was active in these Boston parishes when forced bussing was implemented (Mattapan) and when Boston Public Housing was integrated (Charlestown). Fr. Coyne was instrumental in organizing the Charlestown After Murder Program (CHAMP), working with the families determined to seek justice for their murdered loved ones.  Much of his priesthood has been centered around ministry to children, teenagers and young adults in CYO and Youth Ministry.  Since June 2014 he is the pastor of three parishes that comprise the Blue Hills Collaborative. He is now reaching out to those ministering in the various faith traditions in his new neighborhood, to rejuvenate an interfaith association and lead by example.
